One of my struggles when it comes to applying makeup is shaping and filling in my eyebrows. It might be the easiest job for most women I know, but since I over-plucked it when I was 19 and I got thick and black hair on the inner edges, it’s been frustrating. 😀 Thankfully, I found these Skinfood Black Bean Eye Brow Pencils that were like heaven-sent to me! 😉
Before I tried these eyebrow pencils, I was using In2It Waterproof Eyebrow Makeup (click for my review). Don’t get me wrong, I love that too, but I usually end up using a pencil on the edges so I can get the look that I want. I don’t think it’s the brow makeup’s fault. It’s more on my brush application. It usually results to my overdoing my brows and they end up really thick and uneven. Plus, I have a heavy hand when applying brow makeup because, as I’ve mentioned earlier, my eyebrow hair is dark.
I was browsing this eBay store owned by bhappywithme, who I highly recommend, by the way, because she was very patient with me as I sorted through some issues with the eBay gift certificate my friend Joy of Notepad Corner gave me as a gift. I saw the Skinfood Black Bean Eyebrow Pencil in her store and saw the tip of the pencil itself is shaped differently from what I’ve gotten used to. It’s oval and flat. It only costs Php 147 so I decided to buy shade #3, black brown. But, I wasn’t completely sure about the color so I looked for another shade. I found shade #5, grey brown, at another store so I bought that too.
When they finally arrived, I couldn’t be more excited to try them! The pencil has two tips: the pencil itself with a cartridge that you can tune in and out, and the brow brush, which means you don’t have to use another one for taming your hair or to blend the color across your eyebrows.
The eyebrow pencil stick is 2.4 cm in length. This is how long it was:
These Skinfood Eyebrow Pencils contain a quick-dry formula and black bean nutrients to moisturize your skin. The pigmentation looks natural too. Plus, the pencil itself has this crayon-like feel when I shade my brows. Most eyebrow pencils I’ve tried are too soft, almost gel-like, which normally results to smudges or short wearing time.
Here are swatches of these pencils, #5 is the darker shade:
Light application, for those who have less accented brows. Photo taken with flash:
Thicker application for those who have darker hair like me. But, I don’t shade my brows this dark:
Here’s a photo of me using Skinfood Black Bean Eyebrow Pencil #3 (black brown) and #5 (grey brown):
Shade #3 turned out to be the wrong one for me. It’s too brown for my brow’s hair, especially when I had my picture taken with flash. But, I still use this with my lighter BB creams. I don’t like that I have to put on light brown brow makeup on the inner edges of my brows to make them look even colored.
Shade #5 is the perfect color for my brows! It’s not too brown, not too black (okay, it might look to black on the photo). It’s MY color! 😉 So glad I bought this other one too.
Some may argue that we should pick an eyebrow makeup that’s a shade lighter than our hair, but I don’t like how that black brown looks on me. I prefer #5 because I don’t need to apply extra makeup on my brows.
To sum it up…
Positives:
- Very lightweight. You can carry this easily anywhere.
- Compact. It comes with a brush too so you don’t have to bring along a separate one to do the job of taming your brow hair or for blending.
- The pigmentation looks natural even when you’re heavy-handed.
- Very smooth application so you end up shading your brows lightly than usual.
- Affordable considering how little you need to get the look you want.
- No wastage compared to eyebrow pencils that need to be sharpened.
- Long-wearing.
Negatives:
- Non-refillable cartridge. That’s the only negative thing I can say about these pencils because I just love them! 🙂
Will I buy this again?
- A million times YES! 😀
If you’re like me who’s also finding it difficult to shape your brows, I highly recommend you try these Skinfood Black Bean Eyebrow Pencils. It’s now one of my must-haves. And I’ll be including this in my upcoming giveaway. 😉
What fabulous ideas you have concerning this subject! By the way, check out my website at YR4 for content about Thai-Massage.
Wow beauty blogger! Hehe. I never give much attention to my eyebrows.. or even thought of using eyebrow pencil. The last time I was so vain about eyebrows was when I go to salon for threading sessions 😀
i wish matutunan ko na rin to soon..
When I’m finish with my IN2IT, I’ll probably purchase and try this one too. Thanks for the review 🙂
I love In2It! It’s also worth the money. But this one makes it easier for me to apply eyebrow makeup. 🙂
Skin Food for over a hundred pesos! That’s a very nice deal. I have a hard time using eyebrow pencils, because my brows are non-existent, but this looks more friendly for beginners. And for its price, definitely worth it. 🙂
At first, I actually thought it was expensive considering the length of the stick. But, after using it for a couple of times, I realized it was actually a very good deal. Plus, yeah, this is more expensive when bought from Skinfood stores.
I want the #3 pencil! I think it would be perfect on my brows 😉

It’s cheaper than those on the SF stores. 🙂 This would have been perfect if the cartridge is refillable.
Right! 🙂
Wow! The price is really low compared to the Skin Food store! Will check it out when I come across it. 🙂
Nice! Long-lasting eyebrow pencil you’ve got there!
Great tutorial! I wish I’m good with makeup, too. Hehe. 🙂
